In a method for monitoring the ignition step during the start-up of a fluidised-bed furnace, the fluidised-bed material first being heated to a suitable ignition temperature by introducing extraneous heat and the fuel then being fed into the bed material, it is proposed to measure the decrease of oxygen in the exit gas with time while the fuel is fed, and to compare this with a preset nominal gradient. The fuel feed is interrupted if the oxygen decrease deviates from the preset nominal gradient.
