In a fastener setting tool comprising a plurality of crimping jaws 38 concentrically disposed within a barrel member 24 both of which have co-operating tapered surfaces 39, 41 to effect radial movement of the jaws 38 upon relative longitudinal movement between the jaws 38 and barrel member 24, a fastener engaging stop 25 has an end face 63 with a plurality of projections 65. A nut 19 having a threaded portion 20 and a smooth bore 21 is first threaded on to a bolt 15 passing through two sheets 12, 13, after which the bore portion 21 is crimped by the tool to force the nut material into the locking grooves. The crimping fingers 37 are fixed to a member 36 which is threadably received within a piston rod 29 which is reciprocated to the right by fluid under pressure to cause the fingers 37 to be longitudinally and radially moved. The stroke of the piston 28 is limited by an adjustable stop 45. During the crimping operation as the nut 19 elongates it is impressed by the projections 65 of the fastener engaging stop 25 which is threadably received within the member 36. |
