Apparatuses consisting of an upper and a lower driver are used for the uniform driving and guiding of round material, especially in the region of test devices, the rolls of the lower driver being more closely packed and being designed so as to be rigid in the conveying direction and rotatable at right angles to it. The roll of the upper driver, on the other hand, consists of a plurality of segments, which are rotatable in the conveying direction and are rigid at right angles to it. By these means, a rotary movement can be applied which finally results in a helical transport movement, with uniform movement in the direction of transport. This helical transport movement permits reliable and precise testing of the round material, especially of the pipe. <IMAGE>
