Labelling apparatus

In an apparatus for labelling articles transported on a conveying path in continuous operation, the self-adhesive labels detached from a label tape (14) at a dispensing edge (20) are dispensed onto a pressing-on flap (24) which can be pivoted towards the facing side wall of the articles as they are moved past. The pressing-on flap (24) can be pivoted about an axis (28) which is substantially parallel to the dispensing direction of the self-adhesive label (22), and has an outline which is elongated transversely to the pivot axis (28). A printing head of a wire matrix or thermal printer is assigned to the self-adhesive label (22) which is arranged on the label tape (14) immediately upstream of the dispensing edge (20). The labelling apparatus is particularly well suited for the printing and application of large self-adhesive labels (22) in continuous operation, the width of which labels is a multiple of their height, so that they can be provided with an extensive printed design even with a printing head operating on a single-line basis. <IMAGE>
