A sensor comprises a tubular holder (1) with a front end contact face forming part of a support (5) connected to the holder and carrying a sensitive element (7) with lead wires (9) extending through the holder which has its interior at least at the front end filled with flexible thermal insulation (13) in which the support is embedded with its contact face (3) exposed. The holder is pref. of poorly thermally conductive plastics, e.g. polyphenylenesulphide filled with glass fibres, and the insulation is silicone paste. The support is e.g. an aluminium oxide plate of small thermal capacity, and the element is a Pt resistor, a thermistor or a thermocouple. The sensor permits rapid temp. reading when the contact face is pressed against an object. |
