OPHTHALMIC LENS BLANK WITH PROTECTIVE COATING

An article of manufacture is provided that comprises an ophthalmic lens blank that has a polymerized layer of an oligomeric composition on its finished surface. The oligomeric composition protects the finished surface from mechanical damage and thermal shock. The oligomeric composition also adheres a rigid lens block to the blanks through a fusible metal alloy. A process for altering the unfinished surface of an ophthalmic lens blank is also provided.
