Title cpd. is of formula CdPd3O4 and is used as electrode (coating) in electrochemical processes, including electroplating, in fuel cells, cathodic protection, electrolytic mfr. of organic cpds. of mfr. of O2, Cl cpds. and Cl2, esp. HCl and alkali chloride electrolysis. It is resistant to acids, including oxidising acids such as concn. HNO3, and has high electrical conductivity and excellent electrocatalytic activity. It is prepd. by reacting Cd and Pd oxides, or cpds. which form these by thermal decompsn. at 500-800, pref. 720-780 degrees C.
