The invention relates to a method and a device for the selective detection of hydrogen isotopes in a medium, the permeability of certain membranes, for example made of nickel, for hydrogen isotopes being exploited. The membranes (3a, 3b) have a finger-like shape, and in their interior a carrier gas is fed in through a riser (5a, 5b), which, in the interspace (6a, 6b), entrains the hydrogen isotopes. It is possible to connect measuring instruments to the gas outlets (8a, 8b) for the detection of hydrogen or tritium. <IMAGE>
