PURPOSE:To prevent a vehicle, when it is stopped on an ascending road, from unwillingly reversing, by controlling the engaging pressure of a forward clutch lower than that when a forward speed change shift is atteined further engaging a shift brake at idle operation time when the vehicle is substantially stopped in the forward running range. CONSTITUTION:A main gear speed change device provided in series to a subgear speed change device has a forward clutch 28, selectively connecting in relation of torque transmission a forward running input member with an output member of the subspeed change device, to be driven by an oil hydraulic servo device 33. Here at idle operation time when a vehicle is substantially stopped by setting a manual shift range detected by a sensor 61 to a forward running range, the engaging pressure of the above described clutch 28 is set lower than that a forward speed change shift is attained and to a value that said clutch 28 generates a slip. And in the above condition, a shift brake (not shown in the drawing) in the main gear speed change device is engaged. |
