PURPOSE:To lighten a valve and a spring retainer, by welding the retainer with the valve stem to connect them each other. CONSTITUTION:An umbrella-shaped part 8b which opens and closes an inlet/exhaust port, is formed at one end of a valve 8, and a noncircular engaging piece 8c is set at the top of the valve stem 8a. Then, a noncircular through hole 9e through which aid engaging piece 8c is inserted, is formed in a spring retainer 9. After the valve 8 is attached to a cylinder head slidably back and forth using a guide bush 7 which is divided into two halves, a spring is set from the engaging piece 8c side. Then, this engaging piece 8c of the valve 8 is inserted into the through hole 9e of the spring retainer 9, and the engaging piece 8c and the retainer 9 are rotated relatively to each other so as to engage them with each other. After that, both of them are connected to each other by welding. As they are connected by welding, it becomes possible to thin the retainer and make the valve stem slender, and consequently, the valve unit can be lightened. |
