Prepn. of foodstuff for small animals, esp. fish, comprising granules with a maximum size of 300-2000 mu m, comprises agglomerating an agitated bed of essentially solid, finely-divided foodstuff ingredients with a mean particle size of =500 mu m by spraying with an aq. soln. of a non-toxic polymer and drying the granulated product, if necessary, to 15% moisture. Improvement in flow properties of the granules is afforded by using a polymer soln. rather than water. The granules are more regular in size. In an example, a typical foodstuff contg. 68% fishmeal, 13% skim milk powder, 10% mineral/vitamin mixt. and 9% edible oil was mixed and granulated at 30 degrees C by adding an 18% aq. soln. of gelatin at 60 degrees C and drying the granules at 50 degrees C to 10% moisture content.
|
