A device for locating the transitions of a data signal transmitted in numerical form with respect to the successive leading edges of a clock signal synchronous or plesiochronous with the data signal, comprising at least three flip-flops (10, 12, 14) each of which has an enabling input which receives the data signal with a time lag with respect to the clock determined by delay means for each flip-flop, characterized in that it also comprises logic means (22, 30, 32, 34) connected to the output of the flip-flops which receive the signal with different time lags and designed to generate, as a function of a predetermined criterion, a control signal for a control loop representing the phase relationship between the clock signal and the data signal.
