Compounds of structural formula: (I) < IMG > (II) < IMG > in which R is alhyl, R1 is H or alkyl, and the process for their preparation starting from 1-methyl-5-nitro-imidazolyl-2-carboxyaldehyde and o.alkyl-phenols. The compounds are used as drugs for illnesses deriving from protozoa and anaerobic bacteria.
