PURPOSE:To improve an S/N ratio, wear resistance, etc. and to provide an adequate wearing property to a magnetic head in a magnetic recording medium provided with a binder and magnetic powder by incorporating specifically composed oxide powder into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:(A) The binder (e.g.; polyurethane resin), (B) the magnetic power (e.g.; gamma-Fe2O3), (C) the oxide powder (e.g.; barium titanate) expressed by the formula (M-1 is at least one kind selected from Ba, Sr, Pb and Ca,; M-2 is at least one kind selected from Ti, Zr and Sn; 0<=x<=0.9) and (D) solvent are mixed. The resultant magnetic liquid is coated on a non-magnetic substrate such as PE terephthalate and is coated to form the magnetic layer, by which the intended magnetic recording medium is obtd. The oxide powder of the component C is obtd. by reducing, for example, BaTiO3 powder at about 800 deg.C in gaseous hydrogen flow. |
