A robot with a chiefly vertically oriented robot arm (17), which at its lower ends carries a guide. It contains an upper transport unit (2), a lower transport unit (10), three rods (3) which are movable and situated in these carrying units (2, 10), and the drive unit (4) for the raising, lowering and shifting of the lower carrying unit (10) via transfer of the lower carrying unit along the rods (3) or with the rods (3).
