Diphenylazomethine derivatives of formula (I) (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen or methyl and R2 is an -OH,-OM (M=alkaline metal or alkaline earth metal), -NH2 or -O(C1-4 alkyl) group, and which are in the form of cis or trans isomers or mixtures thereof, have central nervous system activity and can be used as antidepressants and anticonvulsants.
