The cpd. D-2-amino-2,3- dimethyl butyramide (I) is new. Also claimed is the prepn. of (I) and/or L-2-amino-2,3-dimethyl butyric acid (II) by contacting DL-2-amino- 2,3-dimethyl butyramide (III) with a prepn. contg. an aminoacyl amidase obtd. from a culture of Mycobacterium neoaurum. Pref. this hydrolysis is carried out at a pH of 8-11.5 and at 20-45 deg.C.
