Compsn. comprises 95-99 wt.% bitumen and 1-5 wt.% of a polymer having a melt index of 5-50 dg/min. and contg.:-88-98.7 mole% ethylene units; 1-10 mole% alkyl (meth)acrylate with 1-6C alkyl; and 0.3-3 mole% maleic anhydride. - The bitumen has a pseudo-viscosity of 200-1000 secs. at 30 deg.C and comprises a mixt. of at least 50 wt.% bitumen and at most 50 wt.% tar. The terpolymer has a polydispersity of greater than 6 and a Vicat temp. of 30-85 deg.C. It pref. contains a fourth comonomer from 3-8C alpha-olefin, alkylmonomaleate, dialkyl maleate (1-6C alkyl), vinyl acetate and CO, used in amt. of up to 5 mole%. - The compsn. also contains 1 wt.% of a thermoreversible modifier or crosslinker, from heavy alcohols, mono- di or trialcoholamines and polyfunctional alcohols. - Binder for road construction. The compsn. has good cohesion and adhesion and its brittle pt. (Fraass pt.) is below or equal to -23 deg.C (IP 80/53). (I) is a mixt. of 50-100 wt.% bitumen and 0-50 wt.% of a tar; and (II) has a Vicat softening pt. of 30-85 deg.C, and further includes 0-5 mol.% of a fourth polymer. |
