Aqs. air freshener gels which contain a perfume are prepd. by taking up the perfume in a finely divided, porous, water-insoluble synthetic polymer as carrier. The carrier is then combined with an aqs. gel or with the gel-forming components. The gel pref. comprises 0.1-30% porous polymeric carrier, 5-33% perfume, 0-5% emulsifier, 45-94.4% water (opt. partially replaced by a water-miscible org. solvent), 0.5-10% gelling agent, 0-5% polyvalent metal salt, 0-1% preservative and 0-0.1% colourant.
