Prodn. of hydrocarbons from a mixt. of CO and H2 with H2/CO molar ratio (F) = 0.75-1.75 comprises: (i) contacting with a catalyst (A) contg. 3-60 pts. wt. Co, 0.1-100 pts. wt. of at least one of Zr, Ti and Cr, and 100 pts. wt. SiO2, Al2O3 or SiO2-Al2O3, which has been prepd. by kneading and/or impregnation, contacting conditions being such that the (H2+CO) conversion (mole %) lies between 150(F-0.5)/(F+1) and 250(F-0.5)/(F+1); (ii) removing water from the prod.; and (iii) contacting at least the unconverted CO and H2 from stage (i) with a catalyst (B) with activity both for converting CO and H2 to hydrocarbons and for converting H2O and CO into H2 and CO2. |
