摘要 Catalyst (I) comprises (a) transition metal component (II) and (b) organo-Al component (III), (II) is solid obtd. by suspending a carrier in a soln. of a transition metal compsn., evaporating to form a solid intermediate, and suspending this in a soln. of an organo-Al cpd. - The carrier has formula SiO2.aAl2O3 (where a = 0-2), of particle dia. 1-1000 microns, pore vol. 0.3-3 cub.cm/g, and specific surface area 100-1000 sq.m/g. Soln. in which it is suspended contains, per 100 pts.wt., 0.01-50 pts.wt. mixt. of 100 mol.pts. V trihalide-alcohol complex of formula VY3.nZOH, 0.2-300 mol. pts. Ti trihalide of formula TiY3, and 1-400 mol.pts. Zr tetrahalide of formula ZrY4 (where Y = Cl or Br, n = 1-6, Z = monovalent satd. aliphatic or satd. aliphatic-aromatic hydrocarbon gp. of at most 10C). The suspending solvent (IV) is a 4-18C satd. aliphatic or satd. aliphatic-aromatic oxahydrocarbon contg. 1 or 2 O atoms. - Wt. ratio of carrier to mixed transition metal cpds. is 1:0.01-2. The suspension of carrier in the soln. in (IV) of the transition metal compsn. is evaporated at below 200 deg.C but above m.pt. of (IV). The organo-Al cpd., in soln. of which the intermediate is suspended to form (II), has formula AlRmX3.m (where R = 1-18C hydrocarbon gp., m = 1-3, X = OR, Cl, Br, or H); ratio of solid phase intermediate to this organo-Al cpd. is 1:0.05-2. (III) also has formula AlRmX3.m (II) and (III) are in amts. such that atomic ratio of transition metals in (II) to Al in (III) is 1:0.1-500.
