The properties of a spandex fibre (I) are improved by incorporating a phenolic antioxidant (II) and a dialkyl phenyl phosphite (III) where at least half of the alkyl gps. are branched at the alpha position and the phenyl gps. are unsubstd. or monoalkyl substd. - (I) is a segmented polyurethane and formed from a polyether-based polymer. - (I) may have additives e.g. pigments, stabilisers etc. (II) is a claimed as 2,4,6-tris (2,6-dimethyl -4-t-butyl-3-hydroxy benzyl)isocyanurate or a condensation product of p-cresol, dicyclopentadiene and isobutene. (III) is claimed as either: (a) a monomer with two alkyl gps. and one phenyl gp per phosphorus moiety, being phenyl di-2-decyl phosphite, or (b) a polymer with 1.7:1-2.2:1 alkyl gps. per phosphorus moiety and 1.3:1-0.8:1 phenyl gps. per phosphite moiety and no more than 8 phosphorus atoms/molecule. The mol wt. is at least 350 and decaphenyl heptakis (dipropopylene glycol)-octaphosphite is claimed. (III) (a) and (b) are in an amt. of 0.5-10% by wt. of (I) (pref. 1-3%). The ratio of (II): (III) is 0.4:1-0.6:1. |
