PURPOSE:To cast stably a thin walled billet consisting of a high melting metal or alloy by forming the casting mold of a synchronous type horizontal and continuous casting device in such a manner that the space between the top and bottom surfaces thereof is made smaller than the width between the top and bottom surfaces and is gradually decreased toward the casting direction so as to be converged to the thickness of the cast billet. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal is poured from an intermediate holding vessel 20 for the molten metal through a pouring nozzle 19 into a pouring part 18. The molten metal begins to solidify at the triple point parts 21, 21' where the nozzle 19 and endless tracked vehicle blocks 12a, 12b contact with each other to form an unsolidified billet 16. The billet is then drawn at a high speed in synchronization with the blocks 12a, 12b while the solidification is progressed. The blocks 12a, 12b are made of the metal having a high heat content and large diffusivity of heat and having a high m.p. and is made into the construction to permit force cooling from the inside to withstand the heat of the molten metal or is made into the construction to permit the force cooling from the outside in a recurrent stage apart from the contact with the billet 16. |
