PURPOSE:To form a thin film of a surface treating material on the surface of a thin amorphous magnetic metallic strip and to improve the magnetic characteristic thereof by spraying the surface treating material on the surface of the thin amorphous magnetic alloy strip then heating instantaneously only the surface layer of the thin strip to bake the surface treating material and cooling quickly the strip. CONSTITUTION:The surface treating material consisting of the pulverous powder of ceramics such as ZrO2, SiO2, 2MgO.2Al2O3.5SiO2 having a small coefft. of thermal expansion is sprayed onto the surface of the thin amorphous Fe magnetic alloy strip formed by quick cooling from a molten state to form the thin film thereof on said surface. The surface of the thin alloy strip is then quickly heated by laser heating, etc. and is immediately thereafter subjected to quick cooling at >=10<5> deg.C/sec cooling rate. The large residual tensile strain is generated in the thin metallic strip by the difference in the coefft. of thermal expansion between the thin metallic strip and the thin film of the treating material on the surface thereof, by which the iron loss is decreased and the magnetic characteristic is improved. |
