Broken peat is screened carefully to avoid mechanical breakdown of the individual peat particles. The fibrous woody material is sepd. from the humidified material. The block is made by compressing the peat particles. The block as delivered comprises dry unswollen peat particles which will swell when wet. The block has a top surface, surround and a bottom surface; a typical shape is cylindrical. To achieve stability the base has an edge which projects beyond the middle part. The item which is to be cultivated is placed in the depression. |
