The apparatus, comprising a sliding plate (4), a cloth cover (13) and internal electrical heating elements with a control thermostat, is passed over the previously wetted pane of glass. The heat of the plate and the steam generated by the evaporation of the water cause the dirt to dissolve into the liquid which is then carried away by the cloth. The cloth is then regenerated or replaced with another cloth. The device speeds up the work and reduces the physical effort required by breaking down the dirt's cohesion and employs a sliding body on a ball joint whose own weight creates a certain pressure on the pane. This sliding body can be manipulated in all directions through the handle. <IMAGE>
