The device has an induction duct (22), to which primary air can be supplied via a nozzle-like induction member (26) in the region of its lower end. In the duct (22), an induction flow is formed in the form of a mixture of primary air and of room air drawn in close to the ground, which mixture can emerge into the room in the region of the device upper edge via a grating-like outlet (24). For heating the mixed flow in the induction duct (22), a heating body (12) is provided. Next to the induction duct (22), a primary-air branch duct (34) is present; with the aid of a switch-over flap (48), the primary air can be conducted into the induction duct (22) or into the branch duct (34). The air, which is conducted into the primary-air branch duct (34) in the case of the corresponding flap position, flows out via a nozzle-like relief member (36) into the room, which member is designed in such a manner that the primary air emerges into the room with considerably greater speed than the outlet speed of the induced mixture flow. <IMAGE>
