A container for returnable bottles which is made of a winding blank (14) is composed of a ceiling panel (48), side panels (33, 34) and a floor panel. To ensure that the side panels abut onto transition points between the cylindrical part and the neck of the bottles, an upper space (35, 36) and a lower space (32, 33) are bounded off from the side panels (33, 34) by means of folding lines. As well as being provided with flaps (42, 43) for covering the bottle caps, the ceiling panel (48) is provided with lines (46, 47) of perforations so that the ceiling panel can be torn off and the bottles removed. A lower part panel (103) which is anchored to the floor (24) is present between the rows of bottles. The latter panel has a handle aperture which is accessible when the ceiling panel has been torn off. This means that the empty bottles can be placed back in the container and returned to the shop as a single unit. <IMAGE>
