<p>1405616 Catalytic oxidation of S02 to SO3 PECHINEY UGINE KUHLMANN 11 Aug 1972 [13 Aug 1971] 37638/72 Heading C1A A multi stage process for the catalytic oxidation of SO 2 to SO 3 is one in which oxidation product from a catalytic oxidation stage is passed through an absorber, e.g. containing H 2 SO 4 , to remove SO 3 and is thereafter passed to a further catalytic oxidation stage via a heat exchanger which raises the temperature of the gas prior to its introduction into the further oxidation stage, and a hot dry gas which does not interfere with the subsequent oxidation reaction being injected into the gas leaving the absorber so as to vaporize H 2 SO 4 mist which has already formed and to prevent the formation of H 2 SO 4 mist at least up to the inlet of the heat exchanger. This helps to prevent corrosion of the heat exchanger.</p> |
