The invention relates to a device for monitoring the under-thread of an embroidering, quilting or sewing machine, with a rotating central-bobbin shuttle and with a thread monitor which is arranged between the central-bobbin shuttle and the needle plate and which monitors the position of the under-thread, deflected by the rotating central-bobbin shuttle in the axial direction of the latter, within a rotary-angle sector predetermined by a first switch, by means of a feeler bar located in the region of deflection of the under-thread. In order to provide a functionally reliable and constructively simple design, the feeler bar is designed as part of an electromechanical contact switch which is arranged on the underside of the needle plate and which comprises a stationary contact pin, against which an end piece of the feeler bar is pressed by the force of a spring and from which the end piece of the feeler bar can be lifted off counter to the spring force, as a result of the deflecting movement of the under-thread, for the purpose of transmitting a signal.
