PURPOSE:An antioxidant highly safe and suitable for food and cosmetic, primarily comprising an effective component contained in the leaf portion of a carrot. CONSTITUTION:The leaf of a carrot (Daucus carota L.) is dried and crushed. To the resulting crushed material is added about 10-20 times as much extractant such as water or methanol, and the mixture is heated under reflux at about 60- 90 deg.C for about 30-80min and filtered. After the obtd. filtrate is concentrated to an extent so as to contain about 30% extract, it is subjected to vacuum drying, freeze drying, spray drying, etc. to obtain a pale green powder (antioxidant). A high-purity antioxidant (a white powder) is obtd. by subsequent fractional purification and column chromatograhy. |
