PURPOSE:To obtain the objective compound easily, by reacting an organic compound with a reactant capable of giving a compound having asymmetric center by the reaction with the above organic compound, under light radiation, using a photo-catalyst consisting of an optically active compound supported on an inorganic semiconductor. CONSTITUTION:An optically active compound, especially a physiologically active substance such as amino acid, etc., is produced directly and easily by reacting (A) an organic compound, preferably an organic acid having COOH, OH or unsaturated double bond, its salt or ester or their precursor with (B) a reactant which gives a compound having asymmetric center by the reaction with the compound A, under light radiation, in the presence of (C) a photo-catalyst prepared by supporting an optically active compound preferably having one COOH and one NH2 or OH at the asymmetric center on an inorganic semiconductor having a band gap of 0.1-5eV. When the reaction is accompanied with hydrogenation, the photo-catalyst may be the one prepared by supporting an optically active compound to a catalyst having hydrogeneration activity, and attaching the catalyst to an inorganic semiconductor. |
