Piston ring seal for a piston-cylinder arrangement, preferably that in compressors, using at least one piston ring composed of PTFE, the latter containing in particular additions comprising carbon, graphite or the like, which is guided in a groove arranged in the piston or cylinder. For a piston ring seal of this kind, the leak-tightness required for each particular application is guaranteed using technically simple means by virtue of the fact that an elastomer ring which is supported against the base of the groove is inserted into the groove, pressing the piston ring radially outwards or inwards, as appropriate, over its entire circumferential radius away from the base of the groove and against the wall of the cylinder or piston. The elastomer ring can be designed as a flat ring with a rectangular cross-section. It can also be provided with concentric beads, which are arranged on at least one of its radial walls. <IMAGE>
