For the extended use of the bicycle - preferably for leisure and fitness - the arm-action powered handlebars, which are rotatable in a graduated circle about a horizontal axis, transfer by means of a gear arrangement and cable or chain connection the arm-action power of the rider via a free-wheel to the front wheel of the bicycle. The steering capability is not impeded thereby. The arm-action powered handlebars proposed in the exemplary embodiment are also suitable as a retrofit kit for an existing bicycle if the front wheel is provided with a free-wheel.
