A throttle plate is proposed, which serves for controlling the flow cross-section in a throttle valve assembly of an internal combustion engine. The circular throttle plate (6) includes circumferential surfaces running symmetrically to a centre line (10) parallel to the throttle shaft, which surfaces are formed over an angle ( beta ) by circular arcs with a radius (r) about a throttle plate centre point (9). Symmetrically to a centre line (11), which runs perpendicular to the centre line (10), the circumferential surface of the throttle plate is formed over an angle ( gamma ) by circular arcs (12) with a radius (ra), which extends from a centre point (13 and 14) on the centre line (12) with a distance (e) to the centre line (10). <IMAGE>
