PURPOSE:To produce a p-alkylphenol, economically, by the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of phenol with a 1-5C alkylation agent in the presence of a crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst supporting Mg, Ba or P. CONSTITUTION:A crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst having an SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of >=10, preferably >=20 is made to contact with an aqueous solution of a salt of Mg, Ba of P, heated at <=150 deg.C to evaporate water, and calcined to obtain a crystalline aluminosilicate supporting 15-25wt% Mg, Ba or P. The objective p-alkylphenol can be produced by the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of phenol with a 1-5C alkylation agent at >=320 deg.C, preferably 350-450 deg.C in the presence of the above crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst. |
