<p>A data compression system (1) for the transfer of data has a register (15) for recording a unit of information from input data, a conversion system for transforming the data and an output (25) for the transformed data, as well as a control system (4, 5). In order to be able to undertake data compression without loss of information, the invention includes a comparator linked with the output of the register (15), and a counter (16) controlled by the comparator. The comparator (17) checks all the data of the information unit, and the control system (4, 5) is so designed that in the event of non-uniformity the content of the register (15) is fed to the output (25) and in the event of uniformity, a marker bit is produced and the counter (16) is advanced by one position, and the counter status is fed, together with the marker bit, to the output (25) if two successive information units do not agree. An associated data expansion system (2) contains the output data of the compressor (1), checks the marker bit and conveys an information unit which has no corresponding marker bit, to its output; on the other hand if a corresponding marker bit is present the information unit is fed into a counter and an information unit whose data are mutually identical and possess a predetermined value is fed to the output, with simultaneous advancing of the counter (16) each time by one position, as many times as is necessary until the counter status acquires a predetermined value.</p> |
