REMOVAL OF DYESTUFFS FROM WATER BY ELECTROFLOTATION PROCESS

Dissolved sulphonated azo dyestuffs are removed from water by an electrochemical-flotation process which comprises feeding said water to and electrolyzing the water in an electrolytic cell containing a pair of closely spaced iron electrodes, supplying an electrolyzing quantity of an electric current to said electrodes of from about 100 to about 500 amperes per square meter of electrode surface while maintaining the pH of the water from about 6.5 to about 10. The dyes are converted to insoluble complexes which are floated to the surface of the water and are removed therefrom.
