A bearing for the rotating reactor container of a heat-treatment installation in an outer ball race which rotates with the container is described. The bearing comprises a multiplicity of piston/cylinder units which are arranged on the ball race, uniformly distributed around the circumference of the reactor container. The pistons of these units are pressed against the drum surface or box elements arranged thereon. The pressure applied by the pistons is controlled in such a manner that a starting pressure is applied, which is adapted to the mechanical loads occurring and which, if additional thermal loads occur, is correspondingly reduced so that the drum can expand in a relatively unhindered manner in the radial direction.
