<p>A double belt conveyor (2, 3), on whose vertical conveying portion the flat strip of an endless conveyor belt (3) forms, with an accompanying strip of a covering belt (2), a closed transport area (32, 34) on whose longitudinal sides the edges of both belts (2, 3) are held with guides (41, 42) against one another; the transport area (34, 50) is formed by a recess (29 to 31) in at least one of the belts between the guides (40, 41) and opens at the end of the partial run by a diversion (14) of the covering belt (2) which is fed over a bend (21) and the recessed belt is flattened out for the return. It is intended that the cover belt (2) has pulling fixtures (35, 36) arranged in its sidewalls and in the cover belt (2) transverse fixtures (37 to 40) are fitted which act in conjunction with the pulling fixtures; between the former and the pulling fixtures the recesses and protuberances (32 to 34) are formed.
