Steel die, process for its manufacture, and its use

In a steel die having a plurality of parallel extrusion channels, whose inner surface is coated with a wear-resistant, metal-containing layer, the layer is formed from wear-resistant titanium carbides, nitrides or mixed titanium compounds in a thickness of 8 to 25 mu m. The coating of the extrusion channels and of the outer surface of the die can preferably be achieved by CVD processes. The preferred use of the die is the manufacture of ceramic catalyst supports.
