A torch which can be wound up and has no battery. Said torch consists of a two-piece housing having a built-in dynamo as well as a spring mechanism which is wound up by means of a capsule and drives the dynamo shaft. A coupling disconnects the capsule shaft when reversing, and connects the drive shaft of the spring mechanism. The drive can be set in motion or interrupted at any time by means of a switch. A speed regulator keeps the rotation speed of the dynamo shaft constant. A plurality of spring mechanisms can be provided side-by-side, which come into operation successively and increase the running time and hence also the duration of the illumination whenever the torch has been wound up. A magnet or a hook is provided for suspension of the lamp while working.
