PURPOSE:To reliably detect a document by forming the contact surface of a platen cover with a platen glass by an opaque sheet which can transmit infrared rays, and providing a light emitting element and a photo detecting element in the above cover and the upper surface of a copying machine of a copying machine body according to a document size. CONSTITUTION:A moving platen type copying machine 80 has a document table 4a to which a platen glass 4 is fixed, and a platen cover 1 for covering the document table. In this case, the surface of the platen cover 1 that confronts with the platen glass 4 is formed by an opaque sheet 1a made of a polyester film which can transmit infrared rays. In the interior of the platen cover 1, there are provided infrared ray emitting elements 2a-2d for discriminating a document size, which are positioned corresponding to the size and direction of a document on the platen glass 4 when the cover is closed. Photo detecting elements 3a-3d are disposed opposite to the above elements 2a-2d below the platen glass 4, thereby to detect a document. |
