A thermoplastic clamping ring with a U-shaped cross-section intended for tightly clamping lids on drums. The technical problem is to design the thermoplastic clamping ring such that, with the least possible wall thickness and therefore the least possible material use, a stiffness equal to that of a steel clamping ring is obtained. A plurality of stiffening ribs (3) aligned parallel to the axis of the thermoplastic clamping ring (1) are provided on the outer side of the thermoplastic clamping ring, distributed over the circumference. <IMAGE>
