<p>PURPOSE:To improve a visual characteritic and a rise characteritic for an applied voltage by rubbing an oriented film so that liquid crystal molecules are symmetrical with respect to an axis vertical to orientation in the plane of a processed substrate in case of the orientation processing of liquid crystal molecules of a twisting nematic liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION:The twisting nematic liquid crystal display device consists of a polarizing plate 1, a glass substrate 2, a transparent electrode 3, an oriented film 4, a spacer 5, a nematic liquid crystal 6, an oriented film 7, a transparent electrode 8, a glass substrate 9, a polarizing plate 10, and a reflecting plate 11. The oriented film 4 is rubbed in directions of broken arrows, and the oriented film 7 is rubbed in directions of solid arrows. Liquid crystal molecules 21 and 22' are symmetrical with respect to axes A and A' vertical to orientation directions in planes of processed substrates by this rubbing. Thus, the pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules can be set to 0 deg., and the contrast in the direction vertical to a display surface is raised to improve the visual characteristic, and the rise characteristic of liquid crystal molecules for the applied voltae is improved, and the device is driven with a high duty.</p> |
