PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a catalyst by suppressing the rising in the temp. of a catalyst bed, by providing a honeycomb shaped catalyst with a specific diameter or more supporting a noble metal to the inlet side of a gaseous mixture. CONSTITUTION:In a catalytic combustion reactor 1 for obtaining inert gas by catalytically burning a gaseous mixture consisting of combustion exhaust gas and combustion aid fuel (e.g., propane), a honeycomb shaped catalyst 4 with a diameter of 4l or more supporting a noble metal such as platinum is provided to the side of the inlet 3 of the above mentioned gaseous mixture. As a result, reaction efficiency and the rising in the temp. of the catalyst bed are suppressed to prevent the thermal deterioration of the noble metal catalyst and the frequent replacement of said catalyst is dispensed with and the reduction in the manufacturing cost of inert gas can be achieved. |
