PURPOSE:To improve the writing quality on the rear surface of an image receiving sheet for diffusion transfer which has an image receiving layer on one side of a base as a front side and the rear surface layer contg. pulverous particle powder and having substantially writing quality on the other side as the rear side by incorporating a matting agent soluble in an alkali into the front side. CONSTITUTION:The matting agent soluble in an alkali is incorporated into the front side of the image receiving sheet for diffusion transfer which has the image receiving layer on the front side of the base and has the rear surface layer contg. the pulverous particle powder and having the writing quality on the rear side. There is no particular limitation for the matting agent soluble in the alkali as far as said agent is not dissolved in a coating stage and is dissolved by a processing soln. in a developing stage; for example, a copolymer contg. monomers having a carboxylate group, sulfonate group or phosphate group is used. The effect of preventing scratching is thus provided and since no influence is exerted to the transparency of the transferred image, the printed image having high transparency is obtd.
