PURPOSE:To obtain a copper-base metallic member having superior rust preventiveness, high electric insulation and superior lubricity during press working by forming a chemical film consisting of phosphate and copper halide on the surface of a copper-base metallic substrate by chemical conversion. CONSTITUTION:A bath for chemical conversion contg. phosphate ions, metallic ions, halogen ions and the oxidizing agent is brought into contact with at least part of the surface of a copper or copper alloy substrate at about 20-30 deg.C to form a film ofabout 2-30mum thickness consisting of phosphate and copper halide by chemical conversion. The metallic ions are ions of Zn, Mn, Fe, Ca, Mg or the like and are present in the aqueous soln. in the form of stable dihydrogenphosphate. The halogen are ions of Cl, Br, or I, and hydrogen peroxide, nitrite ions or the like are used as the oxidizing agent. Thus, a copper-base metallic member suitable for use as an electric wire is obtd. |
