PURPOSE:To conserve the energy of a system as a whole and to prevent the contamination of a recording medium due to cooling inferiority after the formation of a thermal transfer ink layer and the non-sharpness of a transfer image, by providing a liquid ink layer on a support and superposing a thermoplastic film thereon and forming a thermal transfer ink layer. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer material is formed by providing a liquid ink layer 12a on a heat resistant support 11 and further covering said ink layer 12a with a thermoplastic film 3. The liquid ink 12 in an ink reservoir 5 is applied to the endless belt like heat resistant support 11 continuously moving around rolls 4a, 4b, 4d by an applicator to form the ink layer 12a. Subsequently, the thermoplastic film 3 is superposed on the ink layer 12a to form the thermal transfer material. A recording medium 8 comprising plain paper is contacted with the thermoplastic film 3 of the thermal transfer material and heat is supplied corresponding to a desired printing pattern by a thermal head 10. Next, the recording medium 8 is separated from the thermal transfer material and a desired ink pattern 22 transferred along the film corresponding to the heated pattern is left on the recording medium 8. |
