The device is intended for stopping a bottle having an orifice located at the end of a neck provided with a male external thread, by means of a stopper having an opening and a hollow body in which there is a female internal thread, this stopper having to be screwed on the neck of the bottle up to a final position defined by a stop-piece, in order that the stooper may have, in the said final position, a predetermined orientation with respect to the bottle. It is characterised in that the male external thread 13 of the neck 11 ends, near the end of the neck 11 close to the orifice 12, in a straight section forming an abrupt face 14 and in that the female internal thread of the stopper ends, near the bottom of the stopper, in an abrupt face which must come into contact with the abrupt face 14. Thus, the stop-piece acts at a place in the stopper which is hardly deformable and is constituted in such a way that it is impossible to "force" the passage. Wear, even of the stop-piece, is eliminated. The result is to guarantee that the stopper will always be correctly oriented with respect to the bottle. <IMAGE>
